Events

The beautiful parklands of Wilderness Park near Tampa, Florida will once again be the home to our third annual sport festival. The Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department presents the Squiggy Classic on March 9-11, 2007. The three sites of the Wilderness Park will be closed to the general public to showcase the park's trails to participants in the following events.

Adventure Races
Ready for a challenge? Join us for an adventure while running beautiful trails, hiking through pine forests and cypress swamps, riding single-track bike trails and dirt roads, canoeing the Hillsborough River, navigating with map and compass, and other special challenges! Who knew racing could be so much fun?!

The Squiggy Classic 6-Hr Classic is perfect for those wanting a wilderness challenge!

The Squiggy Dash 2-Hr Adventure Race is a shorter-version ideal for newcomers or fun-lovers!

Squiggy Junior Kid's Race, a mini version just for kids!

In-Line Skating
We will be conducting our Inline Skate Time Trials Saturday, March 10 with a 10 am Start, 12 Noon End. Registration for the Marathon will get you signed up for the Time Trials. You do not have to participate in the Time Trials to be in the Marathon.

Starting at 6 PM that evening there will be a Twilight Skate on the Flatwoods Loop.

Our Inline Skate Marathon will be the following morning Sunday, March 11, 8 am Rollout. A begin and end marker will be established. Prizes given away immediately after the event, at the Ranger Station at the Flatwoods Entry Station.

Trout Creek Trail Run

Join us at the Trout Creek site Sunday, March 11, 2006 at 8:30 a.m. for 15K & 5K cross counrty runs on new courses that wind through pines, oak hammocks, and lakes using single track. You will also enjoy running on the elevated berm for something a little different. Awards will be given to the top 25 male and female racers for each race.

Road Race

The road race is in Thonotosassa and starts at the FOP #108 post starting at 7:30 am through 4:00 pm.

Awards will be following each event. Cash and/or merchandise for all categories. Minimum $5,000 prize list overall.


6 Hour Off-Road Cycling Race

The South West Association of Mountainbike Peddlers will be organizing Saturday's 6-hour Mountain Bike race for teams (up to 3 persons) and solo competition. Classes available include beginner, coed, solo and non-beginner (sport and expert). The course will cover up to ten miles in Morris Bridge park.

Fun Night Paddle

The Canoe Escape will host a night paddle on the Hillsborough River leaving from Trout Creek site on Saturday, March 10 at approximately 5:30 p.m. and go down stream to Rotary Park.
